Enoughism : It's never enough.

As plain as I may sometimes look, I do love fashion and all things shiny, blingy and pretty. But if the situation calls for me to dress "practically" instead of "fashionably", then I'm fine with just a tee, hoodie and jeans. Takkan la nak pergi kelas + tunggu bas bawah matahari yang dah sedia maklum terik pakai makeup or heels kan?

I believe that fashion is a medium of expression. What one think is pretty/ugly is different from the next person because every one of us express ourselves differently. You might think the suede jeans worn by the girl across the room is fugly but what you don't know is she's thinking the amount of makeup you're wearing makes you look like a drag queen.

In my opinion, to be regarded as a truly fashionable person, a LOT of work is required. I've a friend who knows a friend and she told me her friend wakes up at 5 am every day just to groom and prep herself to class. Holy M.A.C! The longest I've spent getting ready for class is half an hour.

Another thing that I truly believe in is : Fashion/Beauty is pain. It is never about being comfortable.

I had to learn it the hard way on days when I'm wearing killer (literally, killing my feet) shoes, impractical bags and jackets/blazers too hot for the Malaysian almost-always-dry-and-dreary weather. But I can't help it. I'm a sucker for jackets/blazers.

Am also a fan of hoodies. A hoodie by nature is meant to be comfortable. It's practical but it has a way of making the *coughs* wearer look shabby and bulky. Thus I've come up with a theory that all things comfortable are most of the time a fashion blunder. 2 simple and obvious examples :

Crocs - They're good for your feet but really, the design leaves much more to be desired. There are actually web-pages dedicated to eliminating the very famous plastic shoes. I for one am not a Croc fan, not matter how good or comfortable they are for my feet.

Tudung Arini, Ariani (I'm not even sure what they're called) - Tudung yg direka untuk mereka yang couldn't be bothered to actually pakai the proper tudung with pins and all. A mini version of telekung made of stretchable fabric. Just sarung and you're done. Done for doom that is. I actually banned my mom from buying one of these.

The examples and comments given are just my opinion. My not-so-important opinion, because really, I'm not a fashion police. Please don't get all worked up on my random, almost satirical comments. Did not mean to intentionally offend those who actually do involve themselves with the object of discussion. I myself am a fashion mishap sometimes.

Now we'll move on to a more fun and lighter topic...

Currently there are 3 things I really, REALLY want more than anything:

1. A Loewe 160th Anniversary Special Edition tote bag.

2. A pair of Oxford shoes. I saw one in Clarks that was to die for.

3. Fashion Inside Out : Daniel V's Guide to How Style Happens from Inspiration to Runway and Beyond ( A book by Daniel Vosovic).

Irina Shabayeva won the 6th season of Project Runway. Am really happy. She's my favourite contestant for this season. There was supposed to be a two-hour special episode of Project Runway: All-Star Challenge right after the finale but sadly it's not shown here in Malaysia. I was really looking forward to it when first heard on E! about the all star challenge. Ada Daniel Vosovic okay...He's my most favourite designer throughout all seasons of Project Runway.

Warning : About to enter gushing Daniel V mode.

Daniel V's creations are all beautiful. He's the only guy that doesn't involve himself in any "drama" or confrontations and not even once throughout the 2nd season have I seen him bad-mouthing other contestants. Daniel truly channels his talent in designing and winning to the fullest extent to a point where he won 2 weekly challenges in a row. Plus he's always been the judges' favourite. He takes their comments humbly and turns them into constructive criticism. Some contestants either snap back or get all defensive.

He's also gorgeous, talented, well-mannered and really sweet (you've to watch the show to get what I mean). Like a true classic gentlemen. There's a catch though : He confessed in one episode that he's gay. Dang it! The nicest and gorgeous guys always turn out to be one. But it's okay. I still like him anyway. (I should really join a groupie. Haha)

I was bit sad though he only became the 1st runner up during the 2nd season of P.R . But at least he won the All-Star challenge. Yay to that! =D (Will be looking for that episode on the internet.)

My Loewe tote bag will be arriving in late December. Ordered it online. Told you I'm a bag addict. Now I have to start saving $$$ from scratch again for the oxford shoes.

Ain said that I'm, and I quote "a corporate slave". That, or I'm just leading a consumer-driven life.

Taken from Merriam-Webster :
Consumerism is the equation of personal happiness with consumption and the purchase of material possessions.

Enoughism is the theory that there is a point where consumers possess everything they need, and buying more actually makes their lives worse off.

If it means having to sell my soul...

Watched Wild Child last night (again!) with my sister. She is obsessed with the movie. I'm more obsessed with all of Poppy Moore's handbags in that movie. While my sister would swoon at the sight of Alex Pettyfer, I would sigh dreamily the moment I saw Poppy's red Gucci Indy handbag.

Like I said in my previous entry, I'm not that crazy about shoes. The only other thing I love more than music are handbags. I can never resist a shiny handbag. They're like my kryptonite, my own personal brand of heroin. As the cheesy Edward Cullen would say. Which is why my mom would follow me everywhere diligently each time there's a sale involving bags. She knew how little self control I have. My friend has a coat-like hanger that she uses to hang all of her handbags. The first time I saw it in her room I was practically drooling over each and every bag. The same evening she took me to a furniture store and yes, I got myself the tree-like hanger as well. My mom is quite annoyed (and appalled) that I'm growing my own "handbag-tree" in my room.

Anyway, after watching the movie, I searched online to find out more about the uber gorgeous maroon handbag. And finally I found it. My heart was practically racing and I almost had trouble breathing. I've died and gone to sheer heaven. (Pardon me and my hyperbole).

Right...where was I? Oh yes, the bag...

Leather-like snakeskin? Check. Deep red colour that's just to good to resist? Double check. Flashy metal plate details? Check. What the heck, the bag had me at "Leather" and "Red".

Since it's by Gucci, the bag retails at around $5800. That's according to the website. This means I would most probably need RM 20,247.69 for this baby to be mine. It also means either I have to marry an old, bald bazillionaire (is there such word?) to obtain such $$_$$ or I have to sell my soul to the devil in exchange for the handbag. Haha, joking. Or am I???

Then I found a few online boutiques that sell replicas (or *ahem* inspired, as they call it) of designer handbags at much, much cheaper $$. One even had a tagline "Looking for a quality handbag but don't want to pay the designer prices?". The more I browsed, the more I my hunger grew for the handbags. My favourites (and by any means I have to get them) include :

They look alike don't they? Almost the exact same design as the deep red one. And these babies would only cost you $249.6 or RM 871.35 each. Hah, all I have to do is dine at my parent's home for a month and splurge half of my first paycheck on those bags.

Buying an authentic LV handbag is included in my list of things to do in life. I just can't bear the thought of buying a fake LV at Petaling Street. It would break my heart so much. I don't know how many months worth of paycheck it's going to cost me but if it means having to wait years before I can finally afford it, then I'll wait. In the mean time, this replica retails at $189 = RM659.80. I have a feeling the original would cost me twice that.

Other handbags I totally fell in love with...

This replica of Marc Jacobs Cecilia bag retails at $285 = RM 994.90.

You can never go wrong with my favourite man, Jimmy Choo. The authentic would take you up to RM 6,615.41 but the replica would cost you as little as RM1,152.02 only.

And the clutches below are simply beautiful aren't they...

This is the "handbag tree" I was talking about. Ditanam, dibaja dan di-water dengan penuh kasih sayang by my bestie, Yaz. Mine has not grown half as hers yet.

I haven't been doing any song review lately...Even the last 3 entries were about shoes, hunks and...oh yeah..a movie..Now it's bags. Although the movie was about music. Would that count?

Okay, I solemnly promise myself to do an album review after this. After I'm done being high and drunk from those handbags.

The crippling effect of gorgeous shoes

In the shopaholic movie Rebecca Bloomwood said : Security can mean different things to different people. Some it's going to the party with the right shoes. This might leave you feeling secure for an evening but have a crippling effect on you in later life.

Girls in general go crazy over shoes. I like shoes but I'm not exactly wild about them. I've friends who feel like they have to buy a pair of shoes each and everytime they're out shopping. They say it's a compulsion. Me, I'll only go crazy if the shoes happen to be red in colour. Or if it's by Jimmy Choo, which I know I still am not able to afford. My cousin and I made a pact to spend our first paycheck together on a pair of uberly gorgeous Choos. Can't wait for that day to come! ;D

Anyway, the reason I'm talking about footwear is because on Saturday I accompanied my baby sis for shoe-shopping. Untuk raya, obviously. I did not intend on getting myself anything that day, especially a new pair of shoes since I already bought mine months ago. How I was proven wrong. It happened just like the time I first met my red Mary Janes. Went into Charles & Keith, browsed all around (kononnye for my sis) when a shoe display caught my eye. It was love at first sight. And it was 50% off the normal price. My heart says YES! but my reason says NO!. So with a heavy heart I set the shoe back down. Since my sister didn't find any shoes to her liking, we walked out of the shop. But the next hour my mind was doing it's own "Debat Piala Diraja" in my head.

...It's 50% off.
...But you've already bought your raya shoes.
...It's ankle boots! The one you've always wanted to have in your mere collection of shoes.
...Yes but it's not like I need them now.
...It's 50% off!!
...But mom would be mad.
...Not if you beg nicely.

(I can't exactly blame the devil. Bulan puasa mana ade syaitan menghasut.)

Next thing I know I was calling my mom. By 4 pm my mom, sis and I made our way back to the shop. And when I did try the shoes on (they fit perfectly!), I knew these babies were made for me. (Ceh, pardon me for my melodramaticness). So at the end of the day both my sister and I went home with each our own pair of new shoes and big smiles.

Yesterday the whole family went out to OU. Apparently my bro needs new shirts (for raya jugak) and my mom thought we might as well dine out to break our fast later in the evening. Yeay, I thought. A reason for me to flaunt my new shoes. By 12.30 pm we were on our way to Damansara. New shoes can give you blisters but mine didn't. I was so in love with the boots that every step felt like I was walking on clouds.

Unfortunately I didn't feel like walking on clouds anymore after 2 hours of walking. The thing is, the boots have quite a heel. And they did say never to walk in heels for more than 2 hours or your feet will start cramping and feeling sore. By 3 pm I was walking even slower than my dad. And my dad walks really slow, as if he's strolling in a park. Who can blame him. He's not the one shopping. It's his 3 kids and wife who are more proactive in that part. So yesterday I was literally walking side by side with my dad. And at every shop that my bro, sis and mom entered, I opted to sit on the benches outside the shops. My feet felt like they were killing me!! Finally I told my mom I wanted to go to MPH. And no, not because I wanted to buy a book. It's the only place where you get to sit for hours and hours reading books or magazines you don't even want to buy without having the store clerks follow you around or give you the dirty look. By 5.30 pm we made our way back to Subang. We were supposed to break fast at TGIF Subang Parade. The moment I got myself into the car, I relieve my feet of the boots. What I need now is a baldi of air panas to rendam my sore feet, I thought. Upon arriving at Subang Parade (which involved more walking), I switched to my pair of flats that I always kept hidden under the car seat for emergency. This was definitely emergency.

When we finally got home and as I tucked my boots safely in the box, I found myself thinking the next time I'm wearing this shoes, it'll be for occasions that involve walking for less than 90 mins. Sure they give me pain that only girls who are crazy for heels can imagine but I still think the boots were worth every $. Beauty experts did say "Beauty is pain". The only weird thing was how I kept myself motivated throughout the last hour of painful walk in OU shopping complex before reaching the parking lot. I said : You conquered Gunung Ledang before. Surely you can walk in these boots.

So maybe it's true. Pretty shoes do give girls a sense of security, make us feel like we can do anything we want and walk around feeling absolutely and gorgeously blissful. For the first 2 hours or so. Then when we're old we'd be making all orthopedics rich with our weekly crippled leg checkup. Pfft!

At least for now, I can finally cross off "Buying a pair of boots" in my To-Do List.

Jessica Simpson has a song entitled "These Boots Are Made For Walking". It's perfect for this entry. LMAO!

The ankle boots

The red Mary Jane that I fell in love at first sight with

This belongs to my roommate, Cia. Never liked wedges that much. But it was in RED!! My heart was practically melting.

Drive My Car - The Hot Rats

Baby you can drive my car
Yes I'm gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And baby I love you
Beep beep'm beep beep yeah ........*the addictive part ;)*..........

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The BOSS Orange commercial has been playing on the tv for quite a number of times the past few weeks. And each time it's on TV I find myself stopping from whatever it is I was doing (usually channel-surfing) and watching it because you see...I'm a fan of anything lemon and orange. Not a fan of peaches or berries, like someone I know. Iced-lemon tea (as in the yellow lemon, not limau kasturi), the lemon-y Citrus Verbena perfume by L'Occitane, the orange-scented dishwasher my mom uses, LEMON MERINGUE pie (please don't think I'm kooky.) So naturally when I first saw the tv commercial, I knew I had to figure out a way how to convince my mom to buy it for me. Heheh.. (But when I checked online, the scent is made of apples and vanilla. Why call Orange then?)

Anyway, the more I watched the tv ad, the more I find myself getting addicted to the background song. Searched online for the song and discovered that it's a cover made by a 2-piece band named The Hot Rats. The original version was made by The Beatles. The only Beatles song I have in my collection is "Please Mr Postman", because I heard in on radio one day and decided it was a really cute song. LOL!

The song was really hard to find online. But here's a clip of the ad and the song I'm referring to. (My friend said Sienna Miller looks pretty in this commercial. I think so too)
